Thrombocytopenia is second leading hematological issue in pregnancy after anemia. Gestational thrombocytopenia explains about 70-80% of all cases of thrombocytopenia in pregnancy whereas the hypertensive disorders account for approximately 20% and ITP for about 3-4% of all cases. Numerous other etiologies are involved but those are rare in pregnancy. The aim of this course is to review the specific causes of thrombocytopenia in pregnancy and impart the user with obstetrical implications and management of these etiologies.
